Thanks for capturing what we all feel as Caribbean people. Haiti has always worn a tragic face. When fate hits a blow like this, I find it even more difficult to face because the Haitians have been suffering for so many years already. I agree with you about the voyeurism at home and try to control the over-sentimentalizing which is always a pitfall.
I think there will be a real need in months and years to come for all of us in the region to help with the re-building process. The way you have listed the various organizations is an excellent reference to isolate the area where each person might be able to contribute in a different way.

I wrote a big long comment and it got deleted
Oh well
You made an excellent point of not letting these outside sources rebuilding Haiti as these so called aids may not be what it seems.....

The media has always played a roll at making these places look horrid in the eyes of ppl. They always show the worse places

I do wish they they get back on their feet and I am thankful that the world tuned in and it was all hands on deck.

So sad to see our Caribbean brothers and sisters suffer so much. Only today I got an email from a friend with some pics of Haiti before the earthquake and they were amazing. In all honesty I would never have guessed I was looking at pics from Haiti. Afterall the media painted a different picture of Haiti for me... now I know better.

Too bad most of what were on the pictures are probably all destroyed now.

Hoping for a speedy recovery to the people of Haiti!

Sincerely

Chris..

It's been in my head since it happened, trying to figure out the thoughts that run even when I can't look at the news anymore.

This commentary touched me in a deep and profound way. Well thought out, heartfelt and non-judging. This is us, this is who we are, this is how we feel, this is how we should think. The answer to 'whats next for Haiti' must be answered by us... thank you, as usual, for sharing your honest thoughts and for all the links, which I've already opened in my tabs. You take care, and don't inundate yourself with it too much, just remain compassionate that though there is much to do, this is a good start on your part!
