Checking Voter Registration online
Did you know there was a website where you could check your voter registration in Trinidad & Tobago? I don’t know who VoteTTnow is, but they say the information is based on the EBC data. It is really cool, because now I know that I am in one constituency, while the people who live across the road in my village, are in another constituency. Do you know what that means? Right. We get TWO sets of campaigning to cover both sides of the road. Double announcements, mike-cars and rallies and candidates walking through our area. And the neighbours’ area, apparently. So, check your registration! And think about voting.
Circumnavigating the Globe
Secondly, Allyuh posted about Around the World for Free a few nights ago, just about when Alex Boylan an winner of Amazing Race (reality tv show that I have never really seen – my actual tv watching is constrained by my lifestyle and the whims and fancies of Guyanese tv) was heading for Trinidad and Tobago. In case you don’t know about it, Mr Boylan is attempting to go around the world. For free. Depending on the kindness of strangers, and along the way trying to show a bit of the world. He spent quite a few days in Dominica before getting a flight to Trinidad Tuesday night en route to South America. Unfortunately, the guy who showed up to meet him at Piarco was very efficient and got him on a flight to Venezuela already.
Sigh. He has a video log though, and this brings me to why I am posting this. His last vlog out of Dominica, when he was talking about Trinidad, he of course mentioned that people said it was dangerous. Sigh again. But he also said he’d been told it was a great place to visit – great music and food. And from his abbreviated vlog post before leaving Trinidad, he again manages to rave about the food. He promised to upload more detailed video and I am eager to see it. I’ve always told people they must visit T&T for the food, in fact I even have a food tour planned for friends from foreign whenever they eventually make it down here. And of course, I like it when visitors appreciate this even without my telling them… So, I hope there is indeed something about the food – akin to when Andrew Zimmern called Bake and Shark the best fish sandwich ever on Bizarre Foods‘ visit.
Of course, the video may be up on the site already…but I can’t check it here at work. And the site itself annoys me to no end. I do NOT want to feel like I have an entire operating system running in my browser, thank you very much. But, I am fascinated by this endeavour and it is something that I would watch as reality tv, if I could get it.
