Cameras en route!

For anyone who was following the whole Nikon/Canon debate and the agony that Lilandra and I still had to endure, even after we finally settled on the D50/D80…the first order not going through in the US, the D50 that had to be returned to Cave Shepherd and the wutless tourist out there who bought my D80 and took it away from Cave Shepherd…

Both Lilandra and I now have our cameras en route to us. Separately of course, because we like complicated arrangements. And because we still haven’t taken a joint shopping-getaway vacation where we could walk into a store and pick one up. The one that my dearest younger sister has in hindsight designated as mine, is currently on a plane with the cousin somewhere over the Caribbean Sea, due to land in about 30 minutes. It was ordered for her to courier it, and back then it was Lilandra’s. Chennette didn’t have any arrangements to get her just yet. But then another avenue, another courier rose to notice and so we ordered. And because the ordering was done by Lilandra (there are times when one must be grateful that as Muslims we don’t deal in interest, otherwise, I’d probably owe my soul to the younger sister by now) shehas decided that THIS 2nd camera, which was to be mine, is HERS. Or at least the lens. She wanted that lens that came with it.

Sigh.

So what does this mean? It means that, because my sister and I are complicated. When the cousin arrives, she will give the camera to Lilandra. Lilandra will take possession of it, although the LENS is designated to be mine, and she will use it. Until such time as I come into possession of the 2nd camera and bring it to her, where we exchange lenses.

But all that is neither here nor there. For we now are the proud owners of 2 Nikon D80s. One with the 18-55mm lens, and one with 18-135mm lens. We are just not the actual possessors just yet.

  3. You can have it if you want. I don’t mind. I’m the bigger broke person. And this way I don’t have to deal with the parents (read father) requesting my old camera.

    :-p

Cousin assures me it’s locked up in her suitcase. I informed cousin that I came to the airport to see her, not get the camera from her.

Cousin is also very sad that she’s missing Gilmore Girls. I reassured her. I hope I didn’t reassure her in vain.

  6. 18-55mm for me. i wanted it but it wasn’t available when i made the first order so i got the 18-135mm. when i was ordering for her, none were available and then the 18-55mm became available so since we wanted the cameras so badly and people always replace the kit lens eventually i got it…and told her my lens!

  7. After trying to sort through the ‘who owns what and why’ scenario, I now have a headache.

  8. Just bring one to Brussels….

Which reminds me, I need to email you and try to plan a stealth visit if you think you’ll have a wee bit of floor room and time.

  10. Ewe - I did warn we like to be complicated ;-) but it’s all Lilandra really. Even though she’s still going to be paid for the next 10 weeks or so she’s been ranting about how she’s broke and unemployed even before she gave notice.

    Sigh…

    Mom, this is your daughter.

  11. D80? That’s very cool. I must admit I’m jealous. We’re going to be going through the Nikon / Canon debate as soon as we can scrape some cash together for the thing. I’m partial to Nikon but I’d be interested to hear how you made your decision.

  14. I am as always ever grateful for the clarification…and of course have decided not to look behind the decision as to who gets what lens. This is what they call diplomacy or rather keeping sound bones. I am interesting to see what the new cameras will mean for the pictures on the blog and elsewhere.

  15. I meant I’m interested not ‘interesting’, apparently one shouldn’t write comments with one’s attention divided with work…alas you know what I have to abandon.

  16. @ Mark - we chose Nikon because I wanted Nikon ;-) She wanted Canon. But since we wanted to eventually share lenses, we had to compromise i.e. choose what I wanted. :-D Actually, there were other reasons. I liked the more solid feel of the Nikon. There was something to do with image stabilisation. The truth is, once we decided I blocked the debate out of my mind. But I do know, that when we were having problems getting the cameras, I would also have happily accepted the Canon. They both take excellent pictures and have good reputations.

    ewe - us? bicker? :-P
    Rone tongue-in-cheek diplomacy accepted

  17. Also, when we went Cave Shepphard and held it, tho we’d already decided Nikon….the Canon didn’t feel right.

    18. Lilandra on May 16th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
  18. One of you lend the new camera to Sarina, please! I enjoy her posts enormously, but the photos put me off eating the food. (Sshhhhh! don’t tell her I said so).

  19. Thanks for the insight. I’m a longtime Nikon fan so I suppose my (oops I mean our) decision process may be very similar to yours.

  20. Hey

Will we have to pay for your services this time around…we still have you to thank for the excellent family photos at Balmoral Castle, Crathes Castle…and elsewhere.

  22. are you offering payment? ;-) other than room and board? Looking forward to pictures, which must be hard unless the twins “help” with the camera.

  23. @ Chennette - you see you?! :D I did explain that the website was having problems and so they did not load the pics of the dishes, instead there is a large disconcerting picture of yours truly. Now you teasing me! I was so embarrassed when I saw it. Fortunately, the print version is nothing like that.
