Joys of Zaboca…

Favourite Breakfast

Whole wheat toast with sliced avocado…no butter, no salt, nothing else needed when the zaboca is this good.

I was reading the Trinidad & Tobago Express this morning, Keith Smith’s article in particular, and as he probably does annually, he was contemplating zaboca, being a fairly recent convert to the joys of zaboca on bread. So I thought I’d post this picture of mine, as my own tribute to Zaboca.

  2. I used to HAVE to have butter on the bread, but then gradually phased it out. Never tried salt – we were a “frown on salt” family…

As for the pics – I think I would love to be able to photograph food like a pro. Already considering, as a long term purchase when I learn more, a more elaborate camera. But still have my day job, which takes up my days, late evenings and occasional weekends.

And I linked you up (or tried to!) ages ago, but forgot to actually check the Blogroll box…see, I am new to this blogging thing.

  4. Avocado on toast for breakfast – the breakfast of champions!!!

You got to mash it all up though.
    Lots-a pepper,
    good splash of Worcestershire sauce,
a good shot of tobasco dont hurt at all!!,
and just a leeeeetle shot of lemon juice to stop the avocado from discolouring.

Spread on toast (no butter) enjoy.

  5. Well, yes, mashed up is good. And mashed up with stuff is also good. But the fact that it can taste so good just like that is beautiful.

  6. You don’t mash it up. You eat it just like that. It slides all over – and even off – the bread, but that just makes it taste even better. And you wash that down with
    a) A steaming cup of coffee sweetened with evaporated AND condensed milk or
    b) A cup of chocolate – not cocoa – chocolate, grated and boiled and so rich it’s like an insulin shot to the vein.

  8. Man, I better stop reading. Too much food-like thoughts in the brain! I must visit Trinidad soon. I saw Zaboca and was puzzled as to what it was. Duh…Avocado. And you’re right nothing else needed when you have a good one. Not like those over here. I swear they force ripe the things and that means they aren’t sweet.

  9. Yes, perhaps my blog isn’t the best for hungry people – I have been caught by that myself! Yeah – force ripe avocado not sweet, not buttery, not good…but I have been in places where it’s at least better than nothing.

  10. this is it right here. I have tried zaboca and whole wheat bread. I am a zaboca lover. Really, I ate zaboca with every conceiveable dish i ate already. i will eat it even without the bread and no salt or anything! Btw, nice photography. I feel like going and eating the piece i was saving now. In fact i will!
